Auburn University at Montgomery Celebrates Record-Breaking Graduation
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) marked a significant milestone as over 700 students participated in the largest graduation ceremony in the university’s history. For many, receiving their degree symbolizes not just academic achievement but also the fruition of years of dedication and perseverance.
Michael Shalayda, a nursing graduate, expressed the profound meaning of his degree, stating, “It’s everything to me. For as long as I can remember, it’s what I’ve wanted.” Shalayda emphasized that his journey at AUM has been instrumental in his aspiration to become the best nurse he can be.
Graduates recognized that their education extended beyond textbooks and lecture halls. Many engaged in undergraduate research and other activities, equipping them with skills crucial for their professional futures. One graduate shared, “Working as a team and as an individual has prepared me for the professional field.”
Sylondia Fells celebrated her fourth degree, sharing her dual role as a mother and educator. “I try to encourage my daughter,” she said, as her daughter studies at Troy University. Fells believes in the importance of lifelong learning and stresses the need for educators to stay current. “There’s always new things to learn,” she remarked.
For those contemplating returning to education at any stage of life, Fells urged, “Just thrive and do it anyway. Don’t let anything get in your way; just soar like an eagle.”
