Alabama Sports Hall of Fame Welcomes New Inductees

The Alabama Sports Hall of Fame has announced its latest class of inductees, celebrating exceptional contributions to sports from alumni of Auburn University. This year’s honorees include Jason Dufner, Mike Mitchell, Frank Warren, and Buddy Davidson.

Jason Dufner, born on March 24, 1977, in Cleveland, Ohio, was a walk-on at Auburn University’s golf team and quickly made his mark, becoming an Honorable Mention All-American in 1997. Dufner secured his first professional win on the Nationwide Tour in 2001, joining the PGA Tour in 2004. He has since become a staple of the tour, achieving his pinnacle in 2013 with a victory at the PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club, marking one of his eight professional tournament wins.

Mike Mitchell, a standout basketball player born January 1, 1956, in Atlanta, Georgia, excelled at Auburn, earning four All-SEC selections and leaving as the school’s all-time leading rebounder. Drafted 15th overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 1978, he had a significant career primarily with the San Antonio Spurs and was named an All-Star in 1981. Mitchell’s impressive stats include 15,016 points and 4,246 rebounds over his 11-year NBA tenure.

Frank Warren, born September 14, 1959, in Birmingham, Alabama, was an All-SEC defensive lineman at Auburn and was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the 1981 NFL Draft. In his 13 seasons with the Saints, he tallied 56 sacks, earning placement among the team’s all-time leaders.

Buddy Davidson, a long-standing figure in Auburn’s athletic department with a career spanning over 50 years, is also honored for his exemplary service, including promoting Auburn’s first Heisman Trophy winner, Pat Sullivan. Davidson’s dedication includes a record 700 consecutive game attendances, cementing his deep-rooted commitment to Auburn athletics.

These remarkable athletes and contributors are set to join a prestigious group recognized by the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame, continuing to inspire future generations.
