A tragic train accident in India’s northern state of Uttar Pradesh has left at least two passengers dead and 20 others injured after the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express derailed near the city of Ayodhya. At least four carriages overturned during the incident, prompting a swift response from rescue and relief services deployed to the scene on a “war footing.”
The injured have been transported to nearby hospitals and health centers, with authorities working diligently to assist those affected by the accident. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his sadness over the incident and called for immediate relief and rescue operations to be carried out efficiently.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns about the safety of India’s rail network, despite ongoing efforts to modernize infrastructure and improve safety standards. With an average of 20,000 deaths per year in rail accidents, the country still faces challenges related to outdated equipment, poor maintenance, and human error.
This is not the first deadly train accident to occur in India in recent years, with past incidents resulting in significant loss of life. The need for continued investment in rail safety and infrastructure improvements remains a priority to prevent future tragedies on the country’s railways.
