Assistant coach of the Dallas Mavericks arrested in connection with assault case


Dallas Mavericks assistant coach Darrell Armstrong was arrested by Dallas police on an aggravated assault charge after allegedly hitting a victim with a gun and threatening to shoot them during an argument. The incident occurred at about 3:45 a.m. on Ross Avenue. The victim and Armstrong knew each other, and the victim was treated at the scene by Dallas Fire Rescue.

Armstrong, 56, is not currently in jail and it is unclear if he has an attorney to speak on his behalf. The Dallas Mavericks have placed him on administrative suspension pending the outcome of the legal proceedings. The team is aware of the incident and there is an ongoing investigation by the Dallas police.

Armstrong had a 14-year playing career in the NBA, spending two seasons with the Mavericks as a backup point guard. He was part of the 2005-06 team that reached the NBA Finals. Armstrong joined the Mavericks coaching staff in 2008-09.
