ASI Certifies MinTa Aluminum Technology Under Performance Standard V3

Min Ta Al-Tech Achieves ASI Certification, Pioneering Sustainable Aluminium Production

The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) has officially certified Min Ta Al-Tech (Taicang) Co., Ltd. against the ASI Performance Standard V3 (2022), marking a significant milestone in sustainable aluminium production. This certification encompasses crucial processes such as aluminium extrusion, processing, deep processing, and surface treatment, covering operations on ten production lines. The facility’s annual production capacity stands at an impressive 20,000 tonnes, with outputs including seamed and seamless aluminium tubes, industrial profiles, and components for the automotive and electronics sectors, as well as medical and transportation equipment.

Developed through extensive stakeholder collaborations, the ASI Certification program is a leading voluntary sustainability standard for the aluminium industry. The Performance Standard V3, launched in May 2022, focuses on three essential sustainability pillars: Environment, Social, and Governance. It aims to tackle critical issues such as biodiversity, the rights of Indigenous Peoples, circularity, and greenhouse gas emissions, defined within its 11 principles and 62 criteria.

The certification process involved an independent audit conducted by SGS-CSTC Standards Technical Services. While Min Ta Al-Tech received accolades for its efforts, ten minor non-conformances were identified in areas including Environmental Life Cycle Assessment, greenhouse gas emissions reduction plans, and occupational health and safety management. The company has committed to implementing a corrective action plan, which will be verified in future audits during the certification period.

Min Ta Al-Tech’s achievement underscores its dedication to enhancing sustainability in the aluminium value chain, a crucial step towards more environmentally responsible manufacturing practices. The full audit report outlining findings is available for stakeholders.
