A fire at Sen. Bernie Sanders’ Vermont office is being investigated as arson, with firefighters responding to a fire in the vestibule between the elevator and office entrance. The fire caused damage to the office door and water damage to other parts of the building. No injuries were reported, and Sanders’ state director expressed gratitude to the first responders for their quick actions. The U.S. Capitol Police and Senate Sergeant at Arms are also involved in the investigation. The incident occurred as Capitol Police reported an increase in threat assessment cases, with over 8,000 cases investigated in the previous year. The Burlington Fire Marshal’s office, Burlington Police Department, and Vermont State Police are conducting a joint investigation into the suspected arson. A spokesperson for the state police did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Politics reporter Megan Lebowitz reported on the incident, with contributions from Frank Thorp V.
