American swimmer Finke breaks world record in men’s 1,500m freestyle at Paris Olympics 2024


Team USA’s Bobby Finke continued his dominance in the pool by breaking a 12-year-old world record to win his second straight Olympic gold medal in the men’s 1,500m freestyle event at the Tokyo Olympics. Finke set a new world mark of 14:30.67, surpassing the previous record set by China’s Sun Yang in 2012.

The American swimmer led from the start of the race and maintained a strong pace throughout, finishing 3.88 seconds ahead of Italy’s Gregorio Paltrinieri, who took silver. Ireland’s Daniel Wiffen claimed the bronze medal.

In another exciting race, Sweden’s Sarah Sjostrom secured her second gold medal of the Olympics by winning the women’s 50m freestyle event. Sjostrom narrowly missed breaking her own world record, touching the wall in 23.71 seconds.

Sjostrom’s victory was a commanding performance, as she led from the beginning and never relinquished her lead. Australia’s Meg Harris took the silver medal, while China’s Zhang Yufei finished with the bronze.
