Red Cross Responds to Storm Damage in Alabama as More Severe Weather Approaches
Jefferson County, Ala. – The American Red Cross is ramping up its support following a series of severe storms that have battered Alabama, leaving numerous homes damaged or destroyed. In response to the destruction caused by high winds and tornadoes, the organization is actively assisting families in at least 20-25 homes primarily affected in North Alabama, with some areas in Jefferson County also on their radar.
Reports of damage continue to flow into the Red Cross hotline and local Emergency Management Agency (EMA) offices, prompting teams to be deployed to the hardest-hit neighborhoods. The Red Cross is prioritizing assistance for those facing the worst damage, providing essential services such as food, clothing, and temporary housing, along with aid for replacing vital items like glasses and prescription medications.
Annette Rowland from the Red Cross of Alabama remarked on the unusual pattern of severe weather, noting, “Normally, we see weather like this in April, while May tends to be calmer. This year has been different.” As another potential storm system looms this weekend, the demand for assistance has surged from impacted families.
