Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission Offers State Testing Laboratory Licenses for Medical Cannabis Industry
The Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission (AMCC) has announced the approval of State Testing Laboratory Licenses for the medical cannabis industry in the state. Interested parties are required to submit a Request for Business Application through the AMCC application portal by March 14, 2025, in order to be eligible for a Business Application Form. This form will be issued on March 17, 2025, and applicants will have until April 16, 2025, to file their applications.
Director John McMillan expressed excitement about the progress being made in Alabama’s medical cannabis industry, highlighting the importance of state testing laboratory licenses in ensuring safe and legal products reach patients. The Commission will review and evaluate all timely and properly filed applications, with licenses set to be awarded on June 17, 2025. There is no limit on the number of licenses that may be awarded.
Commission Chairman Rex Vaughn emphasized the importance of licensed state testing laboratories in delivering medical cannabis products that meet the requirements of Alabama law. Under Alabama’s program, registered certifying physicians may recommend medical cannabis for a variety of conditions, including autism spectrum disorder, cancer-related pain, epilepsy, PTSD, and chronic pain.
Permitted medical cannabis products include tablets, capsules, tinctures, gels, oils, creams, suppositories, patches, nebulizers, and inhalers. Raw plant materials, smoking or vaping products, and food items like cookies or candies are not allowed.
