Alabama Passes Human Smuggling Bill Amid Controversy
MONTGOMERY, AL – Alabama lawmakers have officially passed SB53, a new measure making human smuggling a felony under state law, aimed specifically at addressing illegal immigration. Sponsored by Senator Wes Kitchens (R-Arab), the bill criminalizes the act of knowingly transporting undocumented immigrants into Alabama, stating, “A person commits the crime of human smuggling if he or she knowingly transports into this state another individual if he or she knows is an illegal alien.”
