The Alabama House of Representatives passed HB437, known as Lulu’s Law, inspired by Lulu Gribbin, a 15-year-old girl who survived a shark attack last summer. The legislation aims to establish a shark alert system for Alabama beaches to ensure the safety of beachgoers. U.S. Senator Katie Britt is carrying similar legislation at the federal level to protect future beach visitors.

Governor Kay Ivey thanked Rep. David Faulkner for his work on Lulu’s Law and urged lawmakers to send the legislation to her desk for signing. Rep. Faulkner, who carried the bill in the House, emphasized the inspirational story of Lulu’s resilience and strength, highlighting the importance of passing the legislation to protect families and children at the beach.

Speaker Ledbetter commended Lulu for setting an example of overcoming adversity and inspiring others. The passing of Lulu’s Law is seen as a critical step in ensuring the safety of Alabama’s natural resources and beachgoers. The legislation has received support from various officials and is expected to make a positive impact on beach safety in the state.
