Rush Propst’s Controversial Coaching Journey Continues with Resounding Victory
October 6, 2023
Rush Propst, one of the most notorious figures in high school football history, faced intense scrutiny once again on Friday night as his Coosa Christian team triumphed over Susan Moore High School with a score of 56-26. Before kickoff, Susan Moore fans labeled him “evil” and even referenced scripture to underscore their disdain, but their sentiments did not affect the game’s outcome.
Propst, whose reputation was cemented in the early 2000s when he starred in MTV’s Two-A-Days, previously led Hoover High to five state championships in six years. However, his tenure ended abruptly in 2007 due to a grade-changing scandal, unraveling both professionally and personally as he faced multiple affairs and family issues.
His history of controversy continued at Colquitt County, where a suspension for headbutting a player led to further questions about his conduct. He was later fired amid allegations of misconduct, including providing undisclosed medications to players and significant unpaid taxes. Propst’s brief return as head coach at Valdosta High ended similarly, marred by scandals and allegations before his dismissal after just one season.
In 2023, Propst found himself back in football after a tumultuous stint at Pell City, stepping in as interim head coach for Coosa Christian when the starting coach was suspended. The significant win against Susan Moore reaffirms his knack for leadership despite a legacy fraught with controversy.
Even with the staunch criticism, including fans quoting Psalm 52:3, Propst and his team emerged victorious, showcasing that the controversial coach remains a formidable presence on the football field—much to the chagrin of his detractors.
