Alabama Football Responds to Major Announcement This Saturday

Mark Ingram II Inducted into Alabama Sports Hall of Fame

BIRMINGHAM, AL — The Alabama Sports Hall of Fame will celebrate its 57th annual induction ceremony on Saturday, officially welcoming eight new members, including former Alabama Crimson Tide superstar and 2009 Heisman Trophy winner, Mark Ingram II. This momentous occasion at the Sheraton Birmingham Hotel not only honors Ingram’s remarkable football career but also solidifies his status as Alabama’s first Heisman victor and a key figure during the Nick Saban era.

Ingram, 35, a native of Hackensack, New Jersey, made a significant impact during his three years in Tuscaloosa. He amassed 3,261 rushing yards and 42 touchdowns, placing him seventh on the school’s all-time rushing list. His journey started in 2008 when he earned All-SEC Freshman Team honors after rushing for 728 yards and 12 touchdowns in limited play.

His sophomore year was particularly historic, as he led the SEC with 1,658 rushing yards—averaging 6.1 yards per carry—and became the first Alabama player to win the prestigious Heisman Trophy. Ingram’s performance in the 2010 BCS National Championship Game against Texas, where he rushed for 116 yards and two touchdowns, distinguished him as Offensive MVP, aiding Alabama in a 37-21 victory.

Post-college, Ingram was drafted 28th overall by the New Orleans Saints, where he enjoyed a successful 12-year NFL career, amassing 8,111 rushing yards, 2,125 receiving yards, and 75 touchdowns. He earned Pro Bowl selections in 2014, 2017, and 2019, making significant contributions to multiple franchises before retiring as one of the Saints’ all-time leading rushers.

Alabama Football celebrated this historic induction on social media, highlighting Ingram’s legacy as an emblematic figure in college football.
