Alabama Bolsters Pitching Staff with Transfer Commitment from Matthew Tippie

TUSCALOOSA, AL – Alabama baseball has strengthened its pitching roster with the addition of former Texas State reliever, Matthew Tippie, who announced his commitment to the Crimson Tide on Thursday via social media. Tippie joins the program with one season of eligibility remaining after dedicating two seasons to Angelina College and another two at Texas State.

Ranked among the top 500 prospects ahead of the 2025 MLB Draft, Tippie made significant contributions during the 2025 season, appearing 26 times out of the bullpen and pitching a total of 46 innings. He finished the season with a respectable 4.11 ERA, a 2-2 record, and secured one save. Tippie’s performance was highlighted by an impressive strikeout count, amassing 73 strikeouts while limiting opponents to a .205 batting average, allowing just five home runs throughout the season.

Over his career with the Bobcats, Tippie showcased his talent in 44 appearances, striking out 100 batters and accumulating a 4.54 ERA. As a right-handed pitcher, he exhibits a fastball that ranges from 91 to 94 mph, with his average topping at 92.4 mph. This skill set is essential for Alabama, which is preparing for the upcoming season following a disappointing 0-2 finish in the Hattiesburg Regional.

Tippie’s arrival is particularly timely for Alabama as the team is set to lose key pitchers Braylon Myers and Carson Ozmer to graduation. Ozmer was notably a finalist for the NCBWA’s Stopper of the Year Award and set a program record for saves last season with 17. As Alabama aims to rebuild and improve for the next season, Tippie’s commitment stands as a pivotal investment in their pitching future.
