Early Polling Shows Strong Support for Sen. Tommy Tuberville in Alabama Governor Race

A straw poll conducted by the College Republican Federation of Alabama indicates resounding support for U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville as a leading candidate for the next Alabama gubernatorial election. The poll, which surveyed members and alumni, revealed Tuberville securing 77.9% of the votes, with 22.1% opting for "other." As of now, no other Republican contenders have publicly announced their candidacies for the upcoming primary, set to take place in November 2026, following Governor Kay Ivey’s term, which ends on January 18, 2027.

Tuberville, who garnered attention as the former head football coach at Auburn University, was elected to the Senate in 2020 and is serving a term that concludes in early 2027. Meanwhile, the race for lieutenant governor is heating up, featuring Republican candidates such as Secretary of State Wes Allen and Agriculture Commissioner Rick Pate. A recent straw poll showed Allen in the lead with 59.7%, followed by Pate at 13.7%, and Nicole Wadsworth, who is facing scrutiny over her educational claims, at 6%.

In the U.S. Senate race, Attorney General Steve Marshall holds a commanding 54.2% support, while U.S. Rep. Barry Moore trails with 16.3%. The attorney general contest also showcases Blount County D.A. Pamela Casey as a favorite, gaining 57.9% compared to her opponents, former Alabama Supreme Court Justice Jay Mitchell at 21.3% and Katherine Robertson at 9.2%.

In other statewide races, State Auditor Andrew Sorrell boasts 80% support for the secretary of state position, and Alabama State Treasurer Young Boozer enjoys an impressive 85.7% for a fourth term. The political landscape in Alabama is clearly shifting as these contenders prepare for the upcoming election cycle.
