Vestavia Hills and Homewood Secure Titles at AHSAA Boys Golf State Championships

BIRMINGHAM – Class 7A Vestavia Hills and Class 6A Homewood claimed the top honors at the AHSAA Boys Golf State Championships, held over two days at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail’s Oxmoor Valley course. The tournament concluded Tuesday amidst challenging weather conditions, with both teams finishing under par—an impressive feat among the competitors.

Vestavia Hills continued its dominance by securing the 7A title for the sixth time, tallying a remarkable 25-under par total of 551 (278-273). Homewood also showcased its prowess, winning the 6A championship with a total of 14-under par 562 (285-277).

In the girls’ competition, Class 7A Auburn and Class 4A/5A Tuscaloosa Academy emerged victorious. Auburn finished at 5-over par, marking its fourth state title and first since 2019. Tuscaloosa Academy captured its third consecutive championship with a 6-over score. Other girls’ champions included 6A Pike Road and 1A/3A Wicksburg.

Notably, 29 boys and six girls finished the tournament under par. Spain Park’s Chase Kyes stole the spotlight with his exceptional rounds of 66, earning him the Class 6A low medalist title at 12-under par. In 5A, West Point’s Bailey Sutter achieved low medalist honors with a total of 10-under par.

Among the girls, Tuscaloosa Academy’s Saxon Skinner clinched the Class 4A/5A low medalist title with a striking 8-under par total. The tournament’s format required teams to count the top three scores for girls and top four for boys.
