Ukraine has launched a major drone attack on Moscow as part of its ongoing incursion into Russia’s Kursk region, Russian authorities reported. The Ministry of Defence stated that air defence forces shot down 11 drones over Moscow and its surrounding areas, with some hitting the city of Podolsk. This is one of the largest drone attacks on Moscow, with no damage or casualties reported. In addition to the attack on Moscow, Ukraine’s air defence units destroyed 23 drones in other border regions of Russia.
Following the assault, temporary restrictions on airports were imposed but later lifted. The drone attack came as Russia struggled to push Ukrainian forces out of Kursk following a surprise incursion two weeks earlier. Ukraine now claims control over a significant portion of Kursk territory. Ukrainian forces also targeted an S-300 antiaircraft missile system in Russia’s Rostov region and an oil storage facility, causing a massive fire.
Russian forces continued their offensive in eastern Ukraine, claiming control of a key logistics hub. Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev stated that there would be no negotiations with Ukraine until the enemy is completely defeated. The ongoing conflict has led to concerns about the impact on Russian strategic thinking and industrial capacity to wage war. The situation remains tense as both sides continue their military engagements.
