Alabama Baseball Falls to Vanderbilt in Dramatic Walkoff Loss
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – In a thrilling showdown at Hawkins Field, the No. 18 Alabama baseball team suffered a heartbreaking 9-7 defeat to No. 15 Vanderbilt on Sunday. After leading 7-5 entering the bottom of the ninth, Alabama watched as Vanderbilt mounted a comeback, scoring four runs to secure the win, dropping the Crimson Tide’s record to 36-12 overall and 13-11 in Southeastern Conference play.
Bryce Fowler led Alabama’s offensive effort with three hits in five at-bats, including a double and an RBI. Garrett Staton ignited the scoring with a three-run homer in the fourth inning, while Will Hodo added a two-run shot during a four-run sixth. Kade Snell contributed a triple and three walks, marking his first career three-base hit and extending his hitting streak to ten games.
On the mound, Zane Adams put forth a quality start, allowing two runs over six innings. However, Hagan Banks and Carson Ozmer struggled in the ninth, with Ozmer suffering his first loss of the season after yielding four runs.
Head Coach Rob Vaughn expressed disappointment in the loss, citing strong offensive efforts earlier in the game. "A 7-2 lead with two outs in the eighth is exactly where we wanted to be. Unfortunately, Vandy came back and grabbed the game with a couple of homers late," he said.
Alabama’s next challenge comes on Tuesday against Troy, followed by the final series of the regular season at The Joe this weekend.
Attendance for the game was 3,802, showcasing the significant support for both teams.
