A tragic incident in Shaanxi province, China has left 11 people dead and dozens missing after a bridge collapsed during heavy storms and flash floods. The collapse occurred in Shangluo city on Friday evening, with victims recovered from five vehicles that fell into the river below. Rescue operations are ongoing, with nearly 20 vehicles and over 30 people still missing.
President Xi Jinping has called for urgent rescue efforts to protect lives and property in the aftermath of the disaster. The collapse is just one of many incidents caused by extreme weather conditions in China, with heavy rains leading to flooding and mudslides in multiple provinces. Henan’s Nanyang city experienced a year’s worth of rain in just a few days, resulting in more casualties.
These extreme weather events have caused significant damage in many parts of China throughout the summer, including heatwaves and heavy rains. In May, a similar incident took place in Meizhou city, where 48 people lost their lives due to a collapsed highway. The Chinese government is working diligently to address the impact of these natural disasters and ensure the safety and well-being of its citizens.
