Two Alabama high school football coaches, Drew Gilmer and Adam Helms, have resigned from their positions at Hoover High School after inappropriate behavior surfaced on social media. The coaches were caught in videos thrusting their hips in players’ faces and forcefully removing helmets during practice. State Rep. Juandalyn Givan expressed concern over the incidents, stating that the behavior was unacceptable. The school district has not confirmed the identity of the coaches in the videos.
Following the resignation of Gilmer and Helms, offensive coordinator Chip English was named interim head coach for the team’s upcoming season. The Hoover Police Department is currently investigating the incidents depicted in the videos. Some student-athletes have voiced support for the coaches, emphasizing the positive impact they have had on the team.
The videos of the inappropriate behavior have caused widespread concern in the community, prompting the resignations of the coaches involved. Despite their successful track record, the school district emphasized that the safety and well-being of students and staff remain a top priority.
