Brigham Young University quarterback Jake Retzlaff, the first Jewish quarterback in program history, has signed an NIL sponsorship with kosher food company Manischewitz. Retzlaff, who is known as “BYJew” at the Latter-day Saints university, has led the Cougars to a 10-2 record and a No. 18 ranking in the country. He has thrown for 2,796 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions this season.
Manischewitz, a company known for its kosher products, has been a part of Retzlaff’s life since childhood. He grew up enjoying matzo with peanut butter, making matzo pizza during Passover, and cooking potato latkes at Chanukah. In a video announcing the partnership, Retzlaff is seen doing football drills with a box of matzo.
As part of the partnership, Manischewitz will produce limited-edition Jake Retzlaff Matzo Boxes to celebrate the intersection of athletic achievement and cultural heritage. Retzlaff will also share his story and connection to Manischewitz on social media.
Shani Seidman, the chief marketing officer of Kayco, the parent company of Manischewitz, expressed pride in welcoming Retzlaff into the Manischewitz family. She described him as an inspiration and expressed excitement about supporting his football career and dream. The partnership is seen as a way to celebrate Jewish heritage and bring awareness to Jewish food and excellence.
