A series of explosions targeting walkie-talkies used by Hezbollah in Lebanon have resulted in the death of nine people and left more than 300 injured, according to Lebanon’s health ministry. The attacks, blamed on Israel, are part of ongoing tensions between the two countries. Israel’s defense forces have hinted at further action against Hezbollah. This comes after a wave of pager explosions in Lebanon that killed 12 people and wounded thousands, also blamed on Israel.
Israel’s prime minister has vowed to return residents evacuated from northern border areas to their homes, but has not claimed responsibility for the attacks. Hezbollah has promised retaliation for the explosions, which they claim targeted their communication devices. Reports suggest that Israel may have managed to plant explosives in the pagers used by Hezbollah.
The UN and EU have expressed concern over the situation, with the UN calling for those responsible to be held accountable. An Israeli airstrike on a school in Gaza, as well as ongoing tensions between Israel and Hamas, have also been highlighted. The situation has escalated with the UN general assembly voting to direct Israel to leave the occupied Palestinian territories within a year, marking a significant move in international relations. Israel has denounced the resolution, calling it cynical and distorted. The ongoing conflict between Israel and its neighboring countries continues to be a concern for the international community.
