Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced movie mogul whose 2020 rape conviction was overturned in April, underwent heart surgery on Monday after being moved from a New York City jail to a hospital. According to his representative, Weinstein remains in recovery at Bellevue Hospital’s intensive care unit and is dealing with other serious health issues. The surgery was performed to alleviate fluid from his lungs and heart. Weinstein had previously been hospitalized in July for Covid-19, pneumonia, and various health conditions. Weinstein has been convicted of sex offenses in both New York and Los Angeles, receiving a 23-year sentence in New York that was later overturned. Despite facing new potential charges in New York, Weinstein has maintained that any sexual encounters were consensual. Over 80 women have accused Weinstein of sexual assault or harassment.
