76-Year-Old Man Taken Into Custody for Suspected Poisoning of Children at U.K. Summer Camp

A 76-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of administering poison after several children fell ill at a summer camp in Stathern, central England. According to Leicestershire police, eight children were hospitalized but have since been discharged. The investigation was prompted by a third-party alert regarding the children’s sickness. In response, police and ambulance crews were dispatched to the camp, where they established a triage center at a nearby village hall to assess the affected children and contacted their parents or guardians.

The man is being held on suspicion of administering poison or a noxious substance with intent to injure, aggrieve, or annoy. Detective Inspector Neil Holden noted that this is a complex investigation and assured the public and families of the affected children that updates will be provided as the situation develops. Officers remain present at the site to continue investigating and offer support.

Local MP Ed Argar described the incident as “clearly shocking” and “deeply concerning,” expressing his thoughts for the affected children and wishing them a full recovery. He also urged caution against speculation as the police continue their inquiries. Police have committed to maintaining clear communication with the community as the investigation unfolds.
