Gunnar Henderson, a former Morgan Academy star and Alabama’s Mr. Baseball for 2019, has been selected as the starting shortstop for the American League in the 94th annual MLB All-Star Game on July 16. Henderson, who plays for the Baltimore Orioles, received more fan votes than Bobby Witt Jr. of the Kansas City Royals.
Henderson, who is in his second full season in the big leagues, has impressive stats with a .288 batting average, .383 on-base average, and .600 slugging percentage. He has hit 26 home runs in 84 games and leads the Major Leagues with 74 runs. This will be Henderson’s first All-Star Game selection after being named the American League Rookie of the Year in 2023.
The MLB All-Star Game will take place at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, on July 16, with FOX televising the game. The night before, Henderson will participate in the T-Mobile Home Run Derby, which will be televised by ESPN and MLB Network.
Henderson will be joined in the American League starting lineup by players such as Adley Rutschman, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and Aaron Judge. The National League starting lineup includes players like Bryce Harper, Ketel Marte, and Fernando Tatis Jr. The rest of the teams, including pitchers and reserves, will be chosen through player voting and the Commissioner’s Office.
