Alabama Governor Kay Ivey has allocated $11.2 million in grants to install electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at gas stations along the state’s interstate systems. The initiative aims to provide assurance to residents and travelers that they can easily access charging stations for their EVs while on the highways. The funding comes from the Federal Highway Administration and is part of a larger effort to increase the availability of charging stations for EV owners.
The new charging station locations in the Birmingham TV viewing area include Gadsden, Hamilton, Jasper, Tuscaloosa, Eutaw, and Clanton. These stations are required to be no more than one mile away from an interstate, and businesses must operate year-round and 24 hours a day, seven days a week to ensure accessibility for EV users.
This investment in EV infrastructure demonstrates Alabama’s commitment to supporting sustainable transportation options and encouraging the adoption of electric vehicles in the state. The grants will help expand the EV charging network in Alabama, making it easier for residents and visitors alike to travel efficiently and responsibly. The initiative aligns with broader efforts to promote clean energy and reduce emissions in the transportation sector. EV owners can look forward to a more convenient and reliable charging experience on their journeys through Alabama.
