The Alabama AI Task Force held its inaugural meeting this week, with Dustin Bailey from Microsoft sharing potential uses of artificial intelligence in the state. Gov. Kay Ivey emphasized the importance of using AI responsibly and ensuring it is used properly. The task force, created by Gov. Ivey in February, aims to improve government efficiency with AI, particularly generative AI, which can produce content indistinguishable from human-generated content.
Bailey discussed potential uses of GenAI, a subset of AI, including assisting lawmakers in developing legislation, streamlining health care worker training, and creating evidence-based decision systems for first responders and law enforcement. Microsoft has made significant investments in AI research and development, with $27 billion allocated in 2023 and an additional $100 billion recently announced.
The task force will produce a report with recommendations for using AI in state agencies by Nov. 30. By May 1, they will compile a list of agencies currently using GenAI technology to analyze for effectiveness and safety. Bailey and his team will provide valuable input based on Microsoft’s experience and expertise in AI research. The goal is to harness the potential of AI while maintaining responsibility and ensuring its safe and effective use in government operations.
