Russia launched an artillery attack on the town of Nikopol in Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region, killing a 16-year-old girl and injuring three others. The attack caused significant damage to several houses in the area. The town, situated near the Russian-occupied Enerhodar and Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, has been a frequent target of Russian strikes.
In addition to the attack in Nikopol, Ukraine reported that Russian strikes across the country resulted in the deaths of at least seven people and injuries to dozens more. Regional governors reported strikes in various regions, including Donetsk, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, and Mykolaiv. Ukrainian forces claimed to have downed six out of eight Russian drones and two cruise missiles.
Meanwhile, China announced joint naval and air drills with Russia, signaling their close military cooperation amidst Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The drills, named “Northern United 2024,” will take place in the Sea of Japan and the Sea of Okhotsk. The aim of the exercises is to enhance strategic cooperation between the two countries and improve their ability to address security threats.
Overall, the situation in Ukraine remains volatile, with ongoing Russian attacks causing casualties and destruction. The joint drills between China and Russia further underscore the international implications of the conflict and the increasing alignment between the two military powers.
